Is inspired by the cinematography, lighting and romance of the Hollywood films of the 1930’s and 40’s and the work of the humanist photographers of the 50’s and 60’s such as Brassai, Riboud, Capa and Doisneau.
Combining both influences to create a style of portraiture and filmmaking that is reminiscent of the past but firmly in the present and always looking to create a connection between the subject and the camera.
Lighting plays a key part in everything that I do and probably in another life and time I would have pursued the art of cinematography, as I find nothing more inspiring than the art of the cinematographer, combining light and composition to create mood and emotion.
Documentary Portrait Photographer and Film maker, learning my lighting techniques from working as a stills photographer on music videos and watching cinematographers paint with light to transform attractive looking artists into looking like stars…
Musicians, actors and models that I have worked with with over the years include, Sir Paul McCartney, Pete Townsend, Natalie Imbruglia, Dave Stewart, Rashida Jones, Jerry Hall, Will Young, Richard E Grant, Lulu, Poppy Delivigne and the quite extraordinary Dame Joan Collins.
Lighting is still at the heart of everything that I do, as whilst making a connection with someone is great, high definition photography is unkind and unforgiving to anyone past 5 years old and why great lighting solves that problem.
Allowing me to focus on creating intimate portraits that are beautifully lit, but have the look, feel, playfulness and intimacy of a seemingly unplanned documentary, reportage style of portraiture.
The quite extraordinary Dame Joan Collins, looking fabulous at 85…
